Scope and Content Note
The series contains records regarding Senator Chafee’s senatorial campaigns. The records consist of reports, expense receipts, correspondence, memoranda, news articles, press releases, schedule and events listings, briefing books, studies, congressional statements, and speeches. The records also include Federal Election Committee (FEC) reports, campaign finance reform bills, Senator Chafee accomplishment essays, record vote analyses, radio campaign advertisements, and television interviews.
Subjects include fund raising programs, volunteer workshops, Senator Chafee legislative history, demographic studies, and legislative materials on Federal Election Committee rules and regulations.
Subjects also include:
Campaign Receipts (1994), consisting of correspondence, memoranda, notes, receipts for campaign contributions, travel expenses, and receipts for items and services that Senator Chafee purchased for campaign fundraising events.
Chafee Legislative History (1988), consisting of Chafee accomplishments, legislative activities, record vote analyses, and congressional statements.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) Reports: Receipts and Disbursements (1985-1992), Receipts and Expenditures (1976) consisting of Federal Election Commission forms itemizing campaign contributions and expenditures. Scope and Content Note
The series contains records from Senator Chafee’s 1982 campaign for re-election. Box one contains volunteer and donor response cards from the “Chafee Campaign ’82 Committee”. The second box contains mailing lists, town committee members lists, campaign correspondence, and lists of potential volunteer contacts.
Due to the private nature of some of the material, approval for research in this series is by permission of the archivist.
Subjects include:
Campaign Correspondence (1980-1982), consisting of Chafee responses to individuals volunteering support, assistance, and looking for staff positions for the Chafee campaign. The records also include letters from business officials offering support and invitations to meet with Chafee, as well as responses to constituent questions regarding political concerns.
Captain’s Lists (1980-1981), consisting of names, addresses, and phone numbers of leaders for each Republican Town Committee in Rhode Island.
Potential Volunteers (1981), consists of correspondence from individuals offering assistance, or looking for positions on Chafee’s staff.
Republican Town Committees (1980-1981), listing names and addresses of members.
